The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance.
It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles.
The ICRC’s Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution’s humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti.
It also runs regional specialist units that provide support and expertise to the ICRC’s delegations in Africa.
The Regional Delegation in Nairobi is seeking for an experienced and highly motivated person to fill the position of:
Protection Officer
Within the framework of the priorities, objectives and strategies set by the delegation and under the supervision of the Regional Protection Coordinator, the Protection Officer contributes to the implementation of activities in relation to the protection of civilian population (PCP) in Kenya, and in other contexts covered by the Regional Delegation.
He / she also provides technical advices and support to various services of the National Societies (NS) in relation to the protection of civilians in his/her AoR.
Responsibilities:
Contributes to the analysis of information and the implementation of the Protection of the Civilian Population (PCP) activities.
In charge of developing and maintaining the thematic files under her/his responsibility;
Participates to the development and the consolidation of the delegation’s contacts and network with relevant local authorities and other national and international protection actors involved in PCP activities in the field;
Manages routine secretariat duties, including correspondence, reporting and filing for the well-functioning of the Protection Office;
Contributes to the drafting of various departmental reports,
Maintains regular contacts with the Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies as required and with other interlocutors (NGO’s, associations, etc) and internal counterparts;
Minimum Requirements
University degree;
Minimum 3 years of experience in the field of International Human Rights Law and/or International Humanitarian Law;
Ability to represent the institution & networking;
Knowledge of the Project Cycle Management;
Excellent oral and written English, Swahili oral and written skills;
Knowledge of French is an added value;
Computer literate;
Capacity to analyze the socio-political, and cultural environment and humanitarian/protection challenges and stakeholders involved;
Training skills.
Other Requirements:
Good; organizational, interpersonal, communication and analytical skills;
Ability to work independently and in a team;
Flexibility to work under pressure.
