Job description

Bankable Frontier Associates (BFA) is looking for an Associate who has knowledge of the policy and regulatory issues in the area of financial inclusion. Creating an enabling policy environment for innovations in financial services is one of the pillars of the research and advocacy work we do. We rely greatly on primary qualitative and quantitative research as we help clients navigate the risks and complexities of new technologies, regulatory options, economic challenges and social change to fashion appropriate sustainable responses and long term competitive strategies.

What you’ll do:

As an Associate, your primary role will include:
  • Research and diagnose policy and regulatory environments for financial inclusion
  • Engage with clients to understand their needs, deliver high quality content, and sell consulting services
  • Manage complex, multi stakeholder projects
  • Support other BFA practice areas (e.g. Client Insights and Business Analytics) and identify how policy relates to other critical parts of the financial service ecosystem.
Additional tasks will depend on project requirements determined by our client-driven work. The job is based in Nairobi, Kenya and may require travel and working with stakeholders around the world.

Skills & Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the position should have the following skills and experience:
  • Good understanding of policy development and legal frameworks for financial services
  • Experienced in market diagnostics and analysis of legal environments
  • Experience working with technical experts in a team or project context
  • Familiarity with financial inclusion agenda
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to manage complex clients and processes
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
  • Ability to draft technical reports (using Microsoft Office suite)
  • Ability to work effectively while travelling internationally
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Familiarity working with different cultures and languages

The ideal candidate for the position should have the following qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in Economics, Finance, International Development, Law, or other related areas of academic focus.
4+ years of professional experience working in an international environment

Any of the following will be considered a plus:
Experience working within the policy context of emerging markets
Familiarity with statistical analysis
Familiarity with Stata
