The Kenya Cultural Centre (KCC) incorporating Kenya National Theatre (KNT) is the country’s oldest expressive cultural institution established in 1951 through Cap 218 Laws of Kenya.
KCC is the national centre for cultural engagement, discourse, performance and research.
The Centre incorporates dynamic and aesthetic public spaces for harmonious connections, and is an
institution which embraces and encourages diversity and pluralist perspectives.The Centre operates as a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency (SAGA) and is currently domiciled under the Ministry of Sports, Culture and the Arts.
The Kenya National Theatre which is part of the Centre is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment under the aegis of Kenya @50 Legacy Projects.
It is anticipated that the refurbishment will be completed by end of June 2015.Applications are therefore invited for immediate fill up of the following position:
Theatre Sound Engineer
Ref: KCC/01/2015/02
Reports to: Head of Technical Production
Broad Function: The Theatre Sound Engineer will perform all duties related to sound engineering for performances, shows, presentations and productions at KCC/NT including operating, managing, monitoring and maintaining of all sound equipment at KCC/NT.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintenance of quality sound throughout performances/presentations including amplification, mixing, recording, synching and reproducing sounds and effects for productions.
- Maintaining and looking over sound equipment including repairing of equipment and troubleshooting.
- Work within a team environment that includes lighting technician, stage manager, as well as stage and production staff in planning and carrying out structure of sound for every performance.
- Maintaining the work area to ensure safety and productivity.
- Diploma in Technology for Creative Presentations and Sound Technology or equivalent experience, training and education in audio electronics.
- Certification in basic computer skills for MAC/PC
- Knowledge of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) production equipment and digital audio workstations, microphone and signal techniques.
- At least three years experience in audio electronics specifically for sound playback and live mixing including knowledge of digital and analogue audio equipment including sound consoles, speakers, microphones and wireless systems.
- Basic knowledge and skills in electrical wiring and rigging.
- Experience in music and theatrical sound and audio engineering is preferred but not required.
- Must be available for on the job training and available to work long and unpredictable hours.
- Must have good sense of hearing, physical fitness and agility (including ability to carry heavy loads and to work at heights of up to 20 Feet) is essential.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with the technical production team and other departments.
- Ability to work within a team structure as well as independently.
- Punctuality and time management skills to ensure efficiency for set ups, show calls, meetings and work calls.
