The Kenya Cultural Centre (KCC) incorporating Kenya National Theatre (KNT) is the country’s oldest expressive cultural institution established in 1951 through Cap 218 Laws of Kenya.
KCC is the national centre for cultural engagement, discourse, performance and research.
The Centre incorporates dynamic and aesthetic public spaces for harmonious connections, and is an institution which embraces and encourages diversity and pluralist perspectives.The Centre operates as
a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency (SAGA) and is currently domiciled under the Ministry of Sports, Culture and the Arts.
The Kenya National Theatre which is part of the Centre is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment under the aegis of Kenya @50 Legacy Projects.
It is anticipated that the refurbishment will be completed by end of June 2015.Applications are therefore invited for immediate fill up of the following position:
Box Office Assistant
Ref: KCC/01/2015/03
Reports to: Head of Programmes
Broad Function: The Box Office Manager will be responsible for monitoring all services related to the theatre box office including ticket sales, bookings for various facilities, maintaining the ticket sales database and system and managing the schedule of events for the Kenya Cultural Centre / National Theatre (KCC/NT).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain regular box office hours to supervise phone, email and walk up ticket orders
- Maintain clear communication for the patrons of KCC/NT and the public including updating messages on the online and digital display systems.
- Prepare appropriate sales reports and financial accounting reports for ticket sales and bookings.
- Manage and administer the back end of the ticketing software system and manage subscription packages and special promotions using this system.
- Assist the marketing team to promote ticket sales in the community by communicating with various hotels, touring companies as well as other business and community groups.
- Oversee the mailing and distribution of promotional material to patrons and members of the public.
- Diploma in Business Management, Sales & Ticketing, specialising in Marketing and Operations Management or equivalent.
- Proficient in PC-based Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and other relevant database management programs.
- Internet proficiency is essential.
- Point of Sales Ticketing experience in busy environment dealing with Public Programs is helpful, but not necessary.
- Candidates with experience in sales, retail and hospitality are encouraged to apply.

- Excellent public relations skills and the ability to deal with client concerns efficiently and positively.
- Ability to manage financial and box office transactions efficiently with attention to detail, and in a secure manner.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanour and able to handle information in a confidential and trustworthy manner.
- Skill and accuracy in dealing with cash and credit card transactions.
- Ability to balance multiple projects, meet deadlines and communicate effectively in a frequently flexible and quick-moving environment.
- Ability to train and supervise box office staff as needed.
- Demonstrate an ability to work with volunteers, apprentices and interns, to provide an environment for volunteers, apprentices and interns in which they are adequately prepared and trained, and appropriately monitored.
