Job purpose

Monitors, manages and reports on financial risk within the Group and Business units
Key responsibilities

  • Assist the Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officer in developing consistent integrated financial risk metrics (including but not limited to market, credit and liquidity risk).
  • Develop financial risk management tools and practices to analyse and report on financial market risks and to manage risks according to the enterprise risk management framework and relevant policies.
  • Ensure compliance with Britam’s financial risk management policies, limits, and strategies as set out in the appetite statement.
  • Oversee or monitor all financial risk management activities of the organization.
  • Develop staff training programs that build financial risk awareness within the Group
  • Participate in the development of the common processes, practices, tools and risk metrics to reduce risk exposure.
  • Develop appropriate and comprehensive risk reports to be reviewed by the Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officer
  • Compile and communicate financial risk management policies and best practices
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Working relationships
  • The Business Financial Risk Manager will be:
  • Accountable to the Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officer
  • Directly responsible for staff working under this position
  • Required to liaise and work closely with the Department Managers and Unit Managers in country businesses as may be necessary.
External working relationships
  • Required to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with third party service providers to ensure quality and cost effective services are provided to Britam
Knowledge, experience and qualifications required
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration or related field
  • Professional certifications in Financial Risk Management required.
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in risk management 3 – 4 years of which should be in a supervisory position
