Chief Accountant-Britam Rwanda (For Internal Candidates Only)

Job Purpose:

To develop and maintain sound financial/accounting policies, procedures and controls that ensure the maintenance of accurate and reliable financial/accounting records, provide accurate and timely information and reports to management and ensure custody of company assets. S/He will also develop and maintain sound administrative procedures including HR procedures to ensure adequate support for the business.

Nature and Scope:

Reporting to the CEO (Principal Officer), the Chief Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the organization has sound financial management processes and procedures in place to support the business as it grows. (Including admin functions)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that proper books of accounts are maintained to satisfy legal and internal requirements;
  • Provides timely and accurate financial and accounting information to management;
  • Prepares year end accounts and ensures that the year and audit exercise progresses smoothly;
  • Develops, enhances and implements sound accounting and operating procedures including sound internal controls and ensures adherence to company policies;
  • Prepares and submits various statutory returns, e.g. to the regulator
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with all statutory, regulatory and other requirements
  • Preparation and compilation of company budgets;
  • Supervision of subordinate staff including staff training and development, appraisals and welfare in accordance with company procedures;
  • Treasury management including cash flow management and allocation of funds in accordance to the various competing priorities;
  • Ensure premiums received are correctly allocated to policies and action taken on the issue arising there from resolution of the suspense and data issues;
  • Oversees the general administrative functions including HR, Office cleanliness
  • Performs any other duties as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:
  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) or its equivalent degree;
  • Must be a Qualified Accountant CPA (K) or equivalent;
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a professional firm or a financial related organization;
  • Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment;
  • Strong team player with excellent leadership skills;
  • Computer Literacy in Ms Office Suite of packages.
