Position Description:
In addition to teaching, the Mathematics Teacher/Trainer will support and monitor teachers across the
Mathematics Department in their planning and delivery of the curriculum. The position will involve supporting teachers based in neighboring schools with which the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad supports in professional development.
Specific Objectives include:
Improve students’ knowledge and skills in mathematics.
Strengthen the capacity of the Mathematics department to meet the needs of students and increase effectiveness of teaching materials and methodologies.
Key Responsibilities include:
Produce training materials in response to a thorough needs analysis of the faculty in neighboring schools, and their readiness to deliver mathematics in their local contexts.
Conduct a needs assessment for the Aga Khan Academy Mathematics Department and produce reports outlining progress and areas for intervention.
Develop a rich set of Assessment tools in collaboration with the teachers.
Build capacity of the faculty to develop curricular and units of study.
Instill a culture of classroom observation and reporting.
Bring relevant research findings to the day to day pedagogy.
Generate materials for effective teaching in collaboration with teachers.
Produce Manuals and Handbooks that will make learning of Mathematics easy.
Hold regular demonstration classes for the department in explanation of pedagogy.
In all activities, the Mathematics Teacher/Trainer will work closely with all relevant program and administration staff.
Desired Skills and Experience
Ideal candidates will have:
A minimum of five years of teaching experience (essential)
Experience in providing professional development programmes to teachers (essential)
Experience in conducting programme evaluation or educational research (essential)
Skilled in the use of standard office software (essential)
Experience working in a developing country context, particularly the African sub-continent (preferred)
Experience teaching in a multi lingual, multi-cultural setting (preferred)
A Masters degree or higher in education or education-related to mathematics education (essential)
Familiarity with IB teaching and learning in mathematics. (preferred)
Preferred Personal Characteristics:
Flexibility, cultural sensitivity, congenial, collegial and self-motivated.
Language Proficiencies:
Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, in English
