Job Title: Vice Chancellor

To further consolidate this success, our client is seeking a world class leader in academia with strong managerial capabilities to serve as the University’s Vice Chancellor.The Role: Reporting to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the University Council, the Vice Chancellor will provide leadership and strategic direction for the administration of the University and ensure a coherent, co-ordinated and sustainable approach to the entire University’s academic and non- academic activities.
The Vice Chancellor’s responsibilities will be across three key areas:
Leadership & Advisory
Provide support and facilitation to the University Council in the development of the University’s strategic initiatives and performance management including clear execution plans, accountabilities and supporting budgets;
Develop robust business development strategies and management systems to ensure profitable growth of the University as well as create mechanisms that ensure continuous building and strengthening of internal capacity in the University to facilitate strategy execution;
Work collaboratively with others to ensure the smooth and effective running of the University while transforming strategic plans into operational delivery and ensuring the University’s long-term sustainability;
Create a powerful and differentiated brand, closely manage the University’s key stakeholders and develop a compelling marketing and communication strategy;
Build and manage strategic business partnerships, including direct personal engagement at the highest level with policy makers, peers and industry leaders to champion the interests of both the University’s work and the role of the higher education sector as a whole;
Ensure existence of appropriate and functional governance structures within the institution.
Academia
Continually review the curriculum to ensure that it is comprehensive, practical as well as relevant and aligned to the University’s objective of providing a holistic education;
Determine the optimal establishment for each school and department, including well defined role profiles for each position and clear workload standards;
Establish target staff enrolment numbers and devise innovative strategies for student recruitment while ensuring healthy ratios between student enrolment, fee structure and staff costs;
Embed the institutional ethos for transformative learning by researching and executing new methodologies of higher learning.
Administration
Ensure the existence and implementation of policies and systems which provide for the smooth and effective running of the administration of the University; while taking the lead in working with others to ensure that administrative services are efficient, effective and streamlined;
Institute rigorous recruitment and selection processes to ensure the University attracts, motivates and retains the right calibre of academic and administrative staff;
Establish and maintain the existence of systems and processes that guarantee high performance, competitive compensation and monitoring performance of academic staff against established benchmarks in adherence to established standards of performance;
Establish and staff appropriate administrative departments to support the execution of the University’s strategy, ensuring optimal cost ratios and optimum allocation as well as utilization of all physical facilities.
The PersonMinimum Requirements
A PhD holder with the rank of full professor;
Research experience of not less than 10 years with proven publications in relevant journals;
Experience at the helm of an Institution of Higher Learning.
