Science Master Teacher –Physics and/or Chemistry, Senior School
The Aga Khan Academies – Kenya; Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa.
The Science Master -Physics and/or Chemistry Teacher is a member of the Senior School and plays an instrumental role in realizing the vision and mission of the network of Academies.
We will look to the Science-Physics and/or Chemistry Teacher to play a central role in raising the standards of student attainment and achievement within the Science Department and monitor and support student progress.
Aga Khan Teaching Job Role Responsibilities:
Coaching of new and experienced faculty members in inquiry and concept based pedagogy in both the MYP and DP.
Assist in the implementation of the Approaches to Teaching and Approaches to Learning in the MYP and DP.
Build on the foundation already present in the MYP by developing units that are inquiry-based and child centered
Working with the Science Department, improve the process and quality of Internal Assessments.
Lead professional development sessions in various areas of pedagogy.
Reformatting the scope and sequence of the science curriculum at the MYP to best prepare students to study the sciences at the DP
Inspire and motivate students gain a deeper appreciation for the sciences
Provide an exemplary role model for teaching, professionalism and support the Head of Department in preparing a plan for professional development of the department.
Desired Skills and Experience
Required Attributes for Aga Khan Teaching Job
A Master’s degree with teaching qualification
10 years’ experience in teaching the IB DP and MYP
Demonstrated ability to mentor colleagues and take a lead in the on-going professional development of teachers
Demonstrated ability to create and maintain an atmosphere of high expectations for teachers and students
Strong fluency in English, both in spoken and written communication
Valued additional assets:
Experience working in a cross-cultural environment
Experience working in the developing world
Experience with residential programmes is an advantage
Commitment to the co-curricular life of the school is expected
Experience as a Workshop Leader with the IB
Track record of producing exemplary results at the IB Exams or Moderation
Grounded knowledge in educational research
Experience working within developing countries, and ideally in Africa, with a working knowledge of French or Kiswahili language will be an added advantage
