Job Purpose
  • Lead World Visions efforts to increase the overall influence, income and impact of the ministry of the assigned country. As a member of the Senior Management Team, provide strong strategic communications direction for the organization. Lead in the development and implementation of an integrated strategy for the building of a high-performance communications function that is managed, structured, focused and staffed for productive and quality work. This strategy will identify the key communications needs of World Vision, while setting and steering strategic communications goals and processes that are contextualized to and in alignment with its core ministry functions and goals.
  • To achieve increased influence, income and impact, the position will lead towards 3 (three) strategic communications outcomes; increased reputation and influence, public-community connections are fostered, and staff are increasingly engaged. The position will further oversee the production of key communication resources for donor and public engagement; direct communications in potential emergency and PR crisis situations; and manage internal communications processes which support and advance the strategic goals of World Vision and its core ministry functions, both in-country and internationally
 Job Responsibilities

Donor/Public Engagement Communications
  • Lead the planning and production of compelling and issues-oriented fundraising and publicity materials for effective donor and public engagement by WV, both locally and internally, and in collaboration with other WV Offices as appropriate.
  • Lead the consistent and timely offering and production of feature stories and photos for SHARE the World
  • Vision Partnership-wide system for management of all such resources.
  • Ensure that stories, photos and other materials are produced to standards of quality required for informing, educating and engaging said donors and publics via Partnership websites, magazines, websites, media releases and other communications channels and outlets.
  • Lead in development of a management plan to protect the reputation of WV from actual or potential media crises.
Humanitarian Emergency Communications
  • Plan and manage communications in response to both slow and rapid-onset emergency situations ensuring that the WV Partnership is provided with quality stories, photos and interviews from the field.
  • Deploy to disaster zones if/as required to provide national and international media with information, interviews and assistance in the field.
  • Ensure that the communications team has all key tools and training required for rapid deployments to and communications from the field for extended periods of time.
Internal Communications
  • Ensure that key internal messages and products of WV are skillfully developed and articulated for meeting their objectives.
  • Drive national office executive leadership in communicating areas of their work that create shared understanding.
  • Serve as a consistent, creative and timely information source to the WV Partnership on key areas and issues of WV ministry development and relief and their specific programme sectors.
  • Establish systems and safeguards for the appropriate and effective flows of relevant information to and from WV staff both internally and externally.
  • Consult and network with relevant WV stakeholders around the WV Partnership as needed and appropriate to ensure that their key information resource needs are being met by WV, in compliance with agreed standards, policies and priorities.
Media Relations
  • The Country Programme Director is positioned for important media opportunities and interviews that promote and protect the public image and ministry of WV, while raising public awareness on key issues of poverty.
  • Executive leadership team are positioned as media spokespersons within the organization as strategic and appropriate for responding to media inquiries and achieving positive coverage.
  • National media is monitored and the overall capacity of WV is established to initiate and respond to media contacts with required speed and skill.
  • Social media networks are monitored and the overall capacity of WV is established to identify potential risks and opportunities to initiate and respond with required speed and skill.
Crisis Communications
  • Assist NO to deal with crisis.
  • Advise on strategy to curb crisis.
  • Provide technical expertise in drafting crisis communications products.
Qualifications 
  • Minimum requirement: Bachelors Degree in Journalism, public relations or related field.
  • At least five years experience in communications in the development sector.
  • Thorough knowledge of the communication and media industry.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Advanced photo and video production, editorial, graphic design and media skills.
  • Proven experience of training and capacity building of others.
  • Advanced level of computer proficiency, Mac and PC, including editing skills across Adobe and Apple software for video, photo, media and design.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English.
  • A full commitment to World Visions core values and humanitarian mandate.
