ESPA (Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation) is seeking a dynamic and experienced specialist to support our global science and development programme.
Leading in East and Southern Africa you’ll help ESPA build impact benefitting society, the environment and economy.
Your role will be to help connect to ESPA’s world-class research to create and influence change at all levels in this region.
You will work with ESPA’s researchers and wider group of stakeholders influencing policy, and practice.
You will be working as a key member of an international team at the forefront of research and development impact, connecting to and linking over 800 researchers working in 104 projects from 52 countries.
Working as part of a growing ESPA impact team committed to tracking poverty, you’ll be supporting some of the world’s best research describing how the environment contributes to poverty alleviation.
Your post joins ESPA’s Regional Evidence Advisor for South Asia in New Delhi as part of ESPA’s international outreach and there may be opportunities for working across both regions.

Job Context: The Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation (ESPA) programme is a high innovative, international research programme funded by the UK Government through the Department for International Development (DFID), Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
Projects are highly interdisciplinary, linking the social, natural and political sciences to address a series of focussed research questions and evidence challenges.

The ESPA Directorate, based at the University of Edinburgh, has the responsibility of supporting the global ESPA community, providing leadership to ESPA researchers to help deliver excellent science and significant development impact and transforming research into policy and practice.
This post will report to the ESPA Directorate’s Management Team in the United Kingdom (UK) and will be employed by World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) to be located in Nairobi, Kenya with a starting salary in the range of Kshs 280,000 and benefits including: medical Cover (for self and dependants), Pension of 12.5%, education allowance for dependants, Group Personal Accident (GPA) and Group Life (GLA).
ICRAF will act to support the employment of the successful appointee, working through a strategic partnership with the ESPA Directorate to build impact in the region.
