Management Information System (MIS) Officer Jobs at Danish Refugee Council, Kenya

Background

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a protection of human rights framework, DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. Programmes include protection, livelihoods, food and NFI distribution, water and sanitation, and advocacy amongst others.

There are 4 main programme offices in Somali region, one in Yemen, one in Ethiopia, one in Kenya and one regional office in Nairobi. There are also non operational region wide initiatives, focusing on advocacy and capacity building, which are supported from the Nairobi regional office.

DRC has seen some growth in programme size, but primarily there has been a growth in the number of support and management functions demanded and required by the programme offices, in order to maintain quality and accountability.
MIS Officer Job Purpose
The Management Information System (MIS) Officer will assist Return Consortium Coordinator (UNHCR) to enhance the accountability of RC operations in Somalia.
He/she will receive and classify SMS from communities which are generated though the Beneficiary Feedback System; He/she will support data collection, data entry and data analysis related to the RC and partners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carrying out the day-to-day management of the Beneficiary Feedback System, in particular receive and classify SMS from beneficiaries of communities supported by the Return Consortium (RC) members; forward SMS to the focal point in each agency who will analyze them and will forward them to project managers for action
  • Conduct regular field visits to RC projects locations to monitor the Beneficiary Feedback System;
  • Assist the Return Consortium to organize and conduct workshops, seminars and trainings for staff operating in Somalia who are adopting the beneficiary feedback systems
  • Assist the Return Consortium Coordinator to prepare updates and reports related to M&E activities.
  • Assist the Return Consortium Coordinator in analysis of intention survey data send from the field by the Return Consortium members.
  • Conduct T.0.T to the field staffs of the organizations that are involved in the IDPs/Refugee return in Somalia.
  • Focal trainer of member organizations on the use and posting of survey data into the RC DATABASE.
  • Quarterly visits to key return locations in Somalia to support return officers form Consortium members.
Reporting Arrangements:
The MIS Officer reports to the MEAL Manager in DRC as a line manager and HR aspects only and the Return Consortium Coordinator for overall daily supervision.

Posting details
This is a six months contract. The position is based in Nairobi with frequent travel to Somalia.
Person specifications for MIS Officer Jobs in Kenya

Essential:

  • Minimum of Diploma in Information technology.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a middle level management capacity in humanitarian or development programs with an orientation of ICT areas.
  • Knowledge and experience in participatory approaches and tools for data collection, analysis, community planning, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Knowledge in humanitarian accountability
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is required and proficiency in written and spoken Somali is preferred.
  • Extensive and proven experience in engagement with diverse audiences using appropriate tools targeting return beneficiaries, staff, senior managers and (externally) donors, general public and peer agencies in meetings, symposia or workshops.
  • Experience in capacity building and in facilitating trainings.
  • Good command of computer programs and applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations various stakeholders.
Preferable:
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently.
  • Flexible and creative
  • Ability to multi-task and independently organize work and prioritize tasks.
  • Self-motivated, honest and highly responsible.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Background in IT preferred
