Context/Scope: KBL produces & distributes a large portfolio of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages; it also includes a malting plant and a glass factory within its matrix of companies and
operates throughout the EA region. Our business model includes publicly quoted companies, joint ventures and 3rdparty distributors.

KBL’s businesses produce and sell a range of local beer and spirit brands including Tusker, Senator Keg and Guinness (beer) and Kane Extra Gold; Richot and V&A (spirits). KBL’s association with Diageo make it also the leading premium spirits company in East Africa, and its great brands include Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky, Smirnoff vodka, Baileys and Gilbeys gin.

Purpose of role: To positively impact individual and business performance within the Enabling Functions using the levers of Organization Effectiveness, Talent, Reward and Engagement.

Market Complexity: KBL operates in a highly competitive environment dominated by both domestic and Imported products. The dynamics of the industry in which KBL operates has a lot of changes e.g. restructuring, individual roles, technology, skills and competencies are continuously changing and affecting employee and the way business is done. It is however critical that KBL maintains Leadership by continuous improvements in quality of product and service and its efficiencies while reducing cost and waste. It must manage change and continuously develop its workforce. There is the need to enhance and sustain high morale to meet and maintain KBL performance goals.

Top Accountabilities:

Implement Organisation and People strategy to support business goals and implement so the outcomes are sustained and embedded in the following areas:

Organization Effectiveness: Work to ensure that the structure, processes, culture and capabilities are in place to support the business strategy. Act as a change leader to make this happen.

Engagement:Work with the business leaders to develop/maintain high levels of engagement. Hold the team to account for delivering super engagement goals by linking and underpinning everything we do with our values.

Talent: Drive strategies to grow our talent base and strengthen succession locally in line with our diversity strategy and goals. Work with internal and external recruiters to source talent for vacancies.

Reward: Maximize impact of reward strategies for both hourly and salaried employees.

Leadership: Act as a Breakthrough performance coach to business leaders Role model outstanding coaching and people skills consistently.

Labour Relations: Work with business leaders and collective bodies to maintain a positive labour relations environment.

Employee Relations: Participate in Employee Conduct investigations and advise employees and management on the interpretation of HR policies, programs and procedures.

Performance Management: Coach & assist in the facilitation of employee performance management. Consult on investigations & actions.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in Human Resources.
  • Solid understanding of employment legislation.
  • Good coaching and relationship building skills.
  • Proven ability to influence, persuade, facilitate and build credibility at all levels within the business
  • Broad awareness, understanding and empathy with the talent, reward and organisation effectiveness agenda
