Job Purpose

Contribute to the understanding and challenge of business performance driven by the Finance Business Partner. To support the Business Partner community by:
Providing data analysis and financial modeling support for key projects and decision making within the business.
Carrying out analysis, summarising performance and preparing presentations of financial and non-financial performance.
Providing insightful financial reporting on a monthly basis including risks and opportunities.
This requires strong organisational, communication and analytical skills.
Main accountabilities and approximate time split

Accountability: Business Performance Management
Produce, interpret and provide commentary on the financial performance of Barclays Kenya. Information is provided to numerous business stakeholders including the Branch Profitability, Country Management Committee (CMC), Barclays Kenya Board, and Barclays Africa management
Build knowledge of, and contacts in, the business and support functions of Barclays Kenya. This will help provide more informed interpretation of financials, identification of trends and also allow challenge back to the business where appropriate
Supervise production and aggregation of financial forecasts. This will include acting as the business liaison to one or more business areas
Review project business cases to ensure that proposed investment provides value for money. Provide challenge back to the business where appropriate
Carry out “what if” analysis for the business in order to assess the benefits of new products, investments or strategies
Critically review output to ensure that it is a sufficient standard in terms of both presentation and accuracy. Continuously review processes and deliverables to find more efficient means of production and more effective means of presentation
Review market and competitor information in order to provide analysis to senior stakeholders that will assist in strategy development
Answer technical queries on the production of financials
Provide ad hoc analysis and management information in a timely manner
To support the business – in the production of specific technical elements of Management Accounts including Regulatory Reporting, the provision of core ongoing accounting operations, chart of values etc.
To provide an updated annual/half yearly forecast of performance against budget.
To produce reports that enables Business Partners to identify options for improved cost efficiency and reduction.

Accountability: Decision Support
To help produce the financial business case for all investment projects undertaken by your business and to monitor benefits by gathering data and calculating costs, benefits and returns.
To provide support and analysis on a range of technical issues in connection with the Financial and Management Accounts e.g. variance/trend analysis (actuals v budget) makeup of specific costs etc.

Strategy & Planning
Undertake key elements of strategic management activity, involving the identification of how value is created, destroyed and driven in the function.
To support the business in it MTP/STP processes.

Financial Control
To challenge plans to commit costs, identifying areas for cost efficiency and managing the delivery of benefits.

Accountability: Staff Management
Take responsibility for personal performance development, training and career development plans and ensure they are relevant and progressed.
Actively contribute to both immediate team and relevant customer contacts.

Technical skills / Competencies

Personal Attributes:
  • Attitude: Willingness to learn, positive “can do” approach and strong work ethic showing willingness to support team members in managing peaks and troughs in workload
  • Interpersonal Skills: Open, collaborative approach to teamwork and ability to build network / relationships within the business. Should have confidence to communicate findings (including bad news) to stakeholders
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate complex financial analysis to non-financial stakeholders
  • Technical Confidence: Data base queries (including TM1, GBID, FlexCube and EMDW) are central to the role as is quantitative analysis – notably Excel. Much of this can be taught but basic proficiency and experience is vital
  • Flexibility: Ability to work across different teams and to pick up new skills quickly
Experience and Qualifications for Analystics Manager Jobs in Kenya
  • Qualified or Part qualified CPA, ACCA, CFA, CIMA or equivalent by experience.
  • IT related qualification added advantage.
  • Experience of working in a financially focused role.
  • Experience of providing financial support and advising and influencing business management.
  • Excellent analytical skills to enable financial and operational analysis and interpretation.
  • Ability to assimilate, interpret and communicate complex financial analysis to non-financial people.
Knowledge, Expertise and Experience
  • Detailed knowledge of financial modeling using advanced Excel functionality.
  • Knowledge and skills on power point presentations
  • An ability to acquire skills quickly to interrogate systems, e.g. TM1, ABID, Flex
  • Good communication skills, particularly the ability to analyse and summarise large amounts of data and present in a concise and readily understood format.
  • Good understanding of business strategic objectives and the value drivers of business products and markets.
  • Good understanding of key banking account lines and drivers (interest income, interest expense, impairment, etc.)
