Spire Kenya VP Of Marketing Jobs 2015
VP of Marketing Jobs at Spire Kenya
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Type: Full Time
Min. Experience: Executive
Imagine a world in which every young person in Africa attends a school that truly sets them up for success in the 21st century.
Imagine that this school demands excellence, equips students with globally competitive science and
technology skills, gives students great autonomy, and builds the character and growth mindset that will shape the rest of their lives.
Imagine that this school is not in one town, in one country, but in every town, in every country. This is what Spire imagines, and we want you to help make it happen.
Spire is looking for a superstar identity creator – you are the internal heart and voice of our customer.
You figure out what it will take for us to delight parents and students more thoroughly than any other school and then help to ensure every detail of our schools delivers an exceptional experience for them.
This is an opportunity to create a transformative school model with the future of Africa’s youth at stake.
About Spire:
If we reinvented secondary education for 21st century, what would it look like?
We think it would combine a focus on building independent critical thinking, learning through solving real-world problems, and deep investment in developing teachers who engage rather than lecture students.
It would blend a curated set of the best online learning resources globally with outstanding in-person instruction.
We are launching a new venture to reimagine secondary education in the developing world. Beginning with our first school launch in Nairobi this coming January, we aim to build the first scaled network of high-quality, affordable secondary schools in sub-Saharan Africa.
Our venture will be structured as a social enterprise to enable us to attract the investment that will be needed to reach tens of thousands of students in the next 5-10 years.
Africa has the fastest-growing youth population in the world and a rapidly expanding middle class, but its education systems are not ready to unleash what could be the transformative generation of talent that permanently changes the face of the continent. We aspire to be among the first to show at scale that this is possible.
Our team culture is designed to reinforce our vision:
We model the growth mindset we want our students to embody: you are challenged every day and, as a result, you grow more than at any other point in your life
We are radically open: we share tough messages and our own vulnerabilities because doing so helps us grow
We pursue excellence in every detail and do whatever it takes to produce great outcomes
We put our students before our team, and our team before ourselves
We bring infectious energy, enthusiasm and fun to everything we do because joy fuels the hardest work and learning
About your Role
We are looking for an exceptional individual to revolutionize the way our customers think about school.
We are going back to basics: Who matters for our success?
How do we reach them?
What is our core identity and brand?
VP Of Marketing Job Responsibilities
- We need a rock star customer experience expert who thrives in making something from nothing.
- As VP of Marketing you will join our founding leadership team reporting directly to the CEO.
- You will drive our marketing efforts to build the fastest-growing secondary school network on the continent.
- Defining and executing our marketing strategy is at the heart of several mission-critical priorities for the business: establishing and building awareness of a new brand that stands for a very different and more powerful kind of learning; enrolling students at a rapidly growing clip to fuel the expansion of our school network; and architecting a customer experience for our families and students that has them promoting us to their friends.
- You build out and manage a growing marketing team that delivers on the ambitious targets we set out together.
- In addition to developing your direct reports, you build career ladders within the marketing team to create a pipeline of talent internally that fills new positions as we grow. Members of the marketing team stay with us because they grow with us.
- You create a professional development “machine”: systems and management habits that stretch team members professionally and give them higher quality, more intensive coaching than they can get anywhere else.
- Building a thorough understanding of how parents in our target demographic think about school choice—their perceptions, preferences, and decision-making criteria
- Articulating a crisp vision for a distinctive customer experience that positively surprises parents and students, and crafting a brand identity that reflects that distinctiveness
- Developing and constantly improving and testing (e.g., through A/B testing) all creative assets and lead-generation campaign flows to optimize conversion rates at scale
- Building a very tight enrollment funnel that takes parents through a compelling, structured journey as they get exposed to our schools and make their decision
- Tracking funnel statistics and making data-driven changes to our enrollment tactics
- Managing all aspects of our pricing strategy in collaboration with our finance team
- Developing and overseeing our communications and PR strategy
- Our venture is spinning out of Spire, an education-to-employment social enterprise that our co-founders launched in early 2014 and whose learning model helped inspire our secondary school network vision.
- our colleagues on the leadership team bring both the experience of having built Spire as well as deep operating experience with a range of large-scale efforts in East Africa.
- Our CEO Oliver Sabot led programs across 30 countries at the Clinton Health Access Initiative and later served as senior advisor to an education-focused hedge fund foundation leading a movement to dramatically improve school quality in the developing world.
- Dai Ellis ran one of the highest-performing networks of charter schools in the U.S. and previously spearheaded the Clinton Foundation’s work on global healthcare products.
- Oliver Rothschild is a former management consultant at McKinsey & Company and ran a network of hospitals for Partners in Health in Rwanda.
About You
- You have at least 8-10 years of work experience including significant marketing experience across digital and traditional channels
- You are always putting yourself in other people’s shoes—your natural empathy, curiosity, and people-reading skills help you understand customers better than most people around you
- Your past supervisors have consistently perceived you as one of the rising stars in the organization
- You’re a data hound but one who doesn’t fear decision-making with imperfect data
- You know how to thrive in hyper-growth situations; you have probably worked at or with a rapidly scaling company
- You love building things, you sweat the small stuff, and you take pleasure in excellence more than credit or status
- Our culture resonates deeply with your values—and in particular, you are excited to challenge yourself by embracing mutual vulnerability and a firehose of feedback
