Youth Librarian (Shilling Library) Job 

Founded in 2012, Shilling Library is a community library located in Ngegu village, near Kiambu town.
The library offers on-site reading and a high traffic book rental program.We currently have an opening for a part-time Youth Librarian.

Do you read and love children’s books?
If you do it is totally okay – this job requires it. Position: Youth Librarian (Shilling Library)

Location: Ngegu village (near Kiambu Town) Kiambu County

Salary: Commensurate with experienceApplication Deadline: May 23, 2015

Start Date: May 30, 2015

Hours: 9-5 pm Saturdays (must be able to work at least 3 Saturdays a month)

Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with 1-2 year enrolment at a post-secondary institution
  • KCSE Minimum Grade C+ and above.
Primary Duties:
  • Under supervision, provide information and reference services to children using print resources.
  • Process, revise, or repair library materials.
  • Work at the circulation desk as needed. Assist librarian with reserves and holds.
  • Provide basic instruction to patrons in the use of library resources.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports. Attend workshops, meetings, and training courses as assigned.
  • Provide input to Founder, Board of Directors, Head Librarian and/or children’s librarian for collection development, maintenance, processing and weeding.
  • Represents the library at local, community, county, regional, and system-wide meetings.
Additional Duties
  • Collaborates with the library team to recruit, train, and manage work of volunteers.
  • May act as person in charge in absence of librarians.
  • Connects children and young adults and their families with resources that encourage reading.
  • Provides informational services for the community, including access to library resources and services.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
  • Previous library experience
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Proficiency in Children’s literature
