Key Roles and Responsibilities
- To ensure trade transactions are accurately checked, processed and released, to ensure they meet the Bank’s laid down operational policies and guidelines, and to ensure neither bank nor customer is placed at risk.
- To check shipping documents under import and export letters of credit to ensure the documents comply with the letter of credit terms and to highlight discrepancies which may lead to loss to the bank and customer of an amount equivalent to the documents if we negotiate documents and same are rejected by the issuing bank if found to be non compliant
- To ensure accurate and complete records/files are kept for all transactions as per policy
- To provide efficient customer service and maintain relationships with CPC/Spoke by understanding the Customers’ Business needs, providing advice on Trade Services and ensuring customer satisfaction, zero errors, no customer complaints etc
- To work with the team leader, GSSC Nairobi to motivate, train and develop the team
- To participate in SSC BCP/DRP Testing to ensure that functionality at all times.
- To ensure AML and sanctions guidelines and policies are adhered to and that suspicious transactions are detected and reported. Investigate alerts and close/refer as per policy guidelines.
- Remaining alert to the risk of money laundering and assist in the Bank’ efforts in combating it by adhering to the key principles in relation to: identifying your customer, knowing your customer, reporting suspicions, safeguarding records and not disclosing suspicions to customers. Ensure my staff are trained in combating money laundering
- Comply with group money laundering prevention policy and procedures to the extent applicable and reporting all suspicious transactions including transactions having red-flag alerts to AML approvers
- To promote the culture and practice of compliance within the letter and spirit of regulatory requirements and ethical standards in the conduct of business
- To have good judgement and an inquisitive approach to practices and procedures on AML. To have personal authority and integrity, independence and resilience while handling such transactions wherever complexity exists in the transaction, conduct review to ascertain whether the transaction has any money laundering aspects and escalate to AML advisors
Qualifications and Skills
- A University degree or Professional Banking qualification
- Sound knowledge of Trade Services products and Imex System by accreditation in Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS) and International trade operational program(ITOP)
- Thorough Knowledge of Banking Operations, with at least 2 years experience in Trade Services.
- A good understanding of the market and Customer Requirements for Trade Services
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of the provisions and definitions contained in the ICC Uniform Rules.
- Good people management and interpersonal Skills
- Good understanding of Operational Risk including Money Laundering and Know Your Customer Group requirements & policy.
