KenGen Chief Procurement Officer Job Purpose

The person is accountable for managing the tender process and management of relevant committees
set up to facilitate the process according to current and subsequent procurement legislations augmented with organizational policies and best practices.

Peincipal Accountabilities
  • Efficiently constitute and manage the tender secretariat
  • Lead key operational procurement processes of sourcing and selection and contract management
  • Drive continuous improvement of the procurement process by developing strategies to include market and operational considerations and optimizing supplier performance
  • Contribute to process improvement and advocate adoption of bestpractice in supply chain management and reduction in total cost of ownership (tco)
  • Co-ordinate with users on both annual and sporadic requirements/ procurement plans to maximise leverage on procurement spend, within set budgets and advise on improvement alternative initiatives
  • Manage human personnel relations in regard to authorisations, delegation, arbitration, training needs identification and motivation
  • Network with internal and external personnel in area of expertise to add value
  • Deploy, develop and retain talent including completing performance appraisals, personal development and succession plans effectively and on time

Provide timely procurement support for company generation to ensure no disruption of operations.
Knowledge & Experience for Chief Procurement Officer Jobs in Kenya
  • Bachelors degree in Procurement & Logistics/Business Administration/ Law/Economics, Engineering or (similar qualification)
  • A diploma in Procurement & Supply Chain Management.
  • A member of KISM/CIPS or similar international procurement institute Seven (7)years’ experience in
  • Procurement, with Three (3) yearsat a Senior Officer
  • level.
  • Thorough knowledge of public procurement regulations
  • Experience in Tender Preparation, Tender Analysis and Verification of Tender documents, Financial analysis of
  • Tenders and Supplier selection
  • Efficient usage of SAP or ERP systems is an added advantage
Skills & Competencies
  • Proactive and ability to supervise, organise and manage the unit functions
  • Planning / organization, analytical and problem solving skills are a must
  • Ability to make decisions, and good business recommendations
  • Ability to lead and manage a virtual team with diverse experiences in a data driven, high pressure environment, and define / deliver measurable employee performance objectives
  • Ability in cross-functional business team environment experience preferred
  • Managing, monitoring and motivating human resources skills are required
  • Illustrate strong communication, negotiation and organizational skills
  • Proficient in computer applications (word processing / spreadsheets)
