Media Company Head of Content Acquisition and Planning

Our client a pioneer in the Media industry is seeking to fill the position of Head of Content Acquisition and Planning.

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead deal negotiations for the New Media team involving key company initiatives (Digital Structure programming deals including various business models)
  • Develop term sheets and assist in negotiating rights for distribution of programming content
  • Provide analysis of existing business practices and emerging trends in key on-demand categories such as film, sports, news, and children’s content
  • Assist in the development of our advertising platforms and manage our advertising rights portfolio
  • Understand and lead projects to raise internal awareness regarding emerging technologies, user behaviour trends and alternative distribution platforms/ecosystems
  • Develop relationships with programmer counterparts as well as with internal organizations such as video operations, legal, ad sales, marketing, the technical teams and other business unitsOversees the research, evaluation, and acquisition of new programming and associated services. Targets potential acquisitions and prepares recommendations and strategies.
  • Implements the specifications and features for new programming and ensures adherence to programming standards and policies.
  • Meets with various producers and packagers to hear pitches and manages full process of standard contract negotiations.
  • Manages programming budgets and collaborates with Accounting and Finance to discuss accounting implications of network activities.
  • Utilizes key metrics to coordinate a formal evaluation process of new programming acquisitions.
  • Directs a team who identifies, researches, and supports acquisition deals.
  • Conducts standard and complex negotiations.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters
Qualification and Experience:
  • 8 years of experience, in cable television industry or programming development
  • Substantial experience in strategy, negotiations, media consulting, and contract administration
  • Practical industry experience (content consumption and viewing trends, content protection/security, media windowing models/strategies – theatrical, VOD, Pay TV, FTV, syndication and home video landscapes).
  • International market (acquisitions / distribution) experience will be an advantage
