Vacancy: Manager, Research and Publications
Overall Purpose:
Responsible to the Director, Technical Services for planning, designing and coordinating the
implementation of research studies and publications that set trends in National Environmental Agenda and Policy.Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership in identifying pertinent national environmental issues; the design, implementation and evaluation of research programmes
Continuously assess and prioritize needs, opportunities and demands for research interventions
Establish and coordinate a high performing team of research associates in house and from relevant research institutions and agencies, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders to design and implement responsive environmental research and development programmes
Develop and implement effective methodologies and strategies for ensuring the integrity of research data, information and reports including the creation of databases aimed at expanding the knowledge-base of the environmental studies
Coordinate the publication of research outputs in appropriate peer-reviewed journals of national and international repute and disseminate the results of research and scholarship through other appropriate outlets to promote exchange and learning of performance and trends in environmental issues.
Coordinate the formulation of quality standards and operating procedures which include defining, measuring and evaluating process outputs; documenting any process constraints; developing sampling procedures as well as evaluating, recording and reporting quality and reliability data
Develop and implement effective policies and procedures for capturing, documenting, storing and sharing knowledge, through the creation of databases, expert directories and codification of operating manuals
Coordinate the development and implementation of computerization and networking of the business processes including intranets, groupware and interactive websites to support knowledge management strategies
Coordinate the design and production of environmental awareness and educational materials and other publications to address the problems and questions that individuals and major stakeholder groups may face when making decisions to participate in environmental initiatives.
Establish and implement M&E policies, systems and strategies to monitor compliance of service delivery processes and recommend measures of efficiency and effectiveness to strengthen performance metrics in order to achieve improvements in cost, quality, service and speed
Develop and implement policies and strategies to ensure effective maintenance of a well-stocked and continually updated library and information resources aimed at supporting the execution of research activities
Develop and implement policies and strategies to ensure the effective administration of a scholarship programme aimed at building local capacity and generating data to inform policy and decision making
Support RM by researching for proposals for donors support
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of a Master’s degree in environmental management related studies. A PhD in environmental related studies is preferred.
Membership of relevant professional bodies.
Minimum eight (8) years’ experience gained coordinating high level environmental management or research. Over 10 years’ experience is preferred.
Requirement for appointment
Broad knowledge of research and scholarship in environmental management, including in-depth understanding of emerging environmental issues globally in particular green growth.
Ability to coordinate, initiate, develop and deliver high quality research published in leading environmental journals as well as making presentations at national, regional and international conferences
Strong communication skills including ability to develop proposals, concept papers, position papers as well as write reports and prepare relevant publications
Demonstrate technical expertise in quality assurance as well as monitoring and evaluation
Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite computer applications including statistical packages
Ability to maintain professional status and keep abreast of evolving trends through continuing professional education, especially in the area of environmental studies
Ability to empower staff through coaching and counseling by emphasizing accountability and results oriented management rather than direct supervision
