ECD Teaching Job Vacancies at Danish Refugee Council, Kenya
ECD Teacher (Female)
The Danish Refugee Council has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa region since 1997. The DRC Kenya Program seeks a qualified candidates for the above position.
Purpose:
Responsible for ensuring that children in the safe haven benefit from curriculum-based education and other child friendly learning activities. In particular, the job holder will initiate and implement curriculum based learning.
She will work closely with the Safe Haven Matron and other staff in ensuring that they create an environment that promotes and meets the learning needs of children at the center. She will also work closely with other Protection staff on documentation of programme activities as per the donor requirements.
ECD Teaching Job Responsibilities:
Develop and implement child development activities in line with the ECD curriculum for young children
Provide individualized support to children at the center
Prepare schemes of work for curriculum implementation
Develop teaching/learning resources for effective lessons
Keep all records and use them to improve performance
Prepare and administer continuous assessment tests and terminal exams, mark and record results
Prepare and share reports on child friendly activities being implemented in the Safe Haven
Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports
Provide timely feedback to the Matron on child related issues requiring immediate attention
Work closely with other Education partners in the camp to ensure consistency and quality standards are maintained
Ensure learning materials are procured on time for use by learners
Ensure proper and efficient management of all classroom learning materials
Provide ongoing support to the Matron on day to day management
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of P1 Certificate from Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and a Diploma in ECD.
Proof of registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC)
Sound knowledge of computer and word processing packages
Knowledge of child protection principles and guidelines
Demonstrate understanding of current trends in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE)
Has previously been trained on child protection & child friendly activities
Good team player and able to take direction and work collaboratively with others
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Highly ethical and able to maintain confidentiality
Able to work independently with good problem solving and conflict resolution skills
Ability to promote the values of equality, non-discrimination, and human rights for all
Demonstrated maturity in handling issues and to work cooperatively with staff from diverse cultures
Good personal organizational skills, including time management, team work, ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision
Ability to work in an economically unstable and socially sensitive environment and willingness to take responsibility for personal security and adhere to DRC’s security guidelines
Highly Desired skills for NGO ECD Teaching Job
At least 2 years of progressive experience as a teacher working with children in a refugee set up.
Previous work experience in an NGO/INGO setting
Experience in inclusive education and safe learning environments initiatives/learner centered model of teaching
Knowledge and understanding of Somali society/language is an asset
Posting details:
This position is open only to female candidates. The position is field based in a non-family duty station. Dadaab lies at security phase 5. For staff not residing in Dadaab and surroundings, accommodation is provided in the Safe Haven and for every 6 weeks spent in the region, DRC allows a staff member 5 days of Rest and Relaxation (R&R).
