We are hiring a Marketing & Communications Manager in Kenya!About Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves: The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves is a public-private partnership aiming to improve livelihoods and health, empower women, and protect the environment by creating a thriving global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions.
The Alliance’s ten-year goal calls for 100 million households to adopt clean and efficient cookstoves and fuels by 2020.
We work in collaboration with over 1000 public, private, and non-profit partners to help overcome the market barriers that hinder the production, distribution, and adoption of clean cookstoves and fuels in the developing world.
Through working in focus countries we directly drive consumer and public awareness, support streamlining the industry and help clean cooking enterprises reach commercial viability.

About the Role: Based in Nairobi, this role will work hand in hand with the East Africa Manager.
The Alliance’s priority for 2015 and beyond is to stimulate demand for clean cooking equipment in the market.
This key role will drive the development and management of Marketing and Communications strategies and activities in the region, ensuring the Clean Cooking story is told consistently and effectively.
The expected results are increased consumer awareness of the health, financial and environmental benefits, the participation of government in creating the needed environment and increased uptake of clean cook stoves across Kenya and Uganda.
Coordination with the global office, the National Alliances and the member organizations will ensure aligned efforts between global and regional entities.
Your specific responsibilities will include:
Design and delivery of user awareness campaigns, coordinating all delivery partners
Cultivate and manage relationships with media, local communities, influencers, religious groups relevant to the Alliance’s goals
Together with the East Africa Manager engage with national and county governments (using for example forums) to drive awareness of relevant organs leading to policy design. Relationship building and consistent follow-up with the relevant organs is key.
Develop and manage communications strategy across all online and media channels
Identify key customer segments and geographies, use formative research and engage key informants to determine best marketing messages to be used
Determine optimal mix of effective media (e.g. radio, TV, social media and print), materials (e.g. posters, fliers, stickers), and approaches (e.g. market development events, door to door, road shows, theatre etc.)
Manage website, blogs, newsletters, email marketing, social media, photography, campaigns, media relationships
Evaluate effective mobile platforms for greater reach & driving better real-time decisions
Planning and executing both small and large events and projects incl. budget and vendor management. Prepare the Terms of Reference and Call for Proposals where programs are delivered through partners
Represent the Alliance and drive the message in key meetings (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania)
Manage and support HQ in the design and production of publications and various marketing collateral (incl. annual report, e-newsletters, brochures and factsheets), this includes research, writing and editing (or liaising with outsiders on the same)
Develop a monitoring plan to measure reach and effectiveness of various messages, activities and channels. Support the development and implementation of appropriate mechanisms for measuring & evaluating effectiveness of communication activities at the ground level
Oversee and keep updated the database of key audiences and stakeholders
Facilitate and manage local media relationships, to drive reporting of results in the communities
Act as the Alliance’s photographer where required, archiving of relevant pictures
Provide communications support and ensure brand consistency across all materials and events.
Build capacity across departments and establish procedures around brand consistency and telling Alliance’s story effectively
Oversee administrative activities relating to vendor management (contracts, invoices) and budget preparation and tracking
Who we are looking for
You are a highly organised self-starter and proud of your interpersonal skills
Creating and managing relationships and partnerships is your second nature
You have 5-8 years of work experience in a marketing, development or communications role, with significant project management experience
You have excellent writing and editing skills for a variety of stakeholders (from unaware potential client to board member)
You have created online and print marketing and communication materials, coordinated with suppliers, producers and partners in many occasions
You have strong experience in managing social media, websites and other digital marketing channels
You think long-term while you easily see the detailed steps needed to achieve the bigger picture
You are excited about working with urban and rural low-income communities, ready to travel across rural towns and interact
You are comfortable delivering in a collaborative, demanding and fluid work environment
You are adept at managing local stakeholders in tandem with your teams expectations and the organisations overall objectives.
Ideally you understand both sides: the unique challenges of creating solutions for low-income populations and you have experience in the private sector.
Preferred – You hold a Master’s degree in development, marketing, communications or a related field
You proficiently handle Microsoft Office and virtual team tools, graphic and video design is a plus

Other information
The successful candidate will start on 1st or 15th May 2015 and will be contracted as a consultant.
We are looking for candidates based in Nairobi.
If you are not a local citizen you will be required to prove the right to provide self-employed consulting services in Kenya during the application process.
You will work at our Westlands office, you will meet partners across Nairobi and travel across Kenya and sometimes Uganda.
You should have a suitable working environment incl. laptop.
You should be ready to commit to this role for 2 years minimum.
We’ll arrange a 3-month probation period with learning and delivery objectives.
