The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit an mNutrition Project country coordination consultant for Uganda to provide project management and coordination support to the contracted Local Content Partner for good quality nutrition content aggregation and publishing. The assignment includes building strong institutional relationships between the project and different stakeholders involved in the project – Government, UN, NGOs, Universities.
ILRI works with partners worldwide to enhance the roles that livestock play in food security and poverty alleviation, principally in Africa and Asia. The outcomes of these research partnerships help people in developing countries keep their farm animals’ alive and productive, increase and sustain their livestock and farm productivity, find profitable markets for their animal products, and reduce the risk of livestock-related diseases. www.ilri.org

mNutrition Project:
ILRI is part of a consortium implementing an mNutrition Project with the objective to develop and scale-up the delivery of agriculture and health nutrition messages through mobile phone platforms. The project aims to reach at least 3 million people with services in a total of 14 countries, including 10 countries in Africa (Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia) and 4 countries in South Asia (Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar).
In the consortium, ILRI is leading in-country project activities for Uganda. This includes engagement with the main nutrition stakeholders in the country as a first step towards building effective partnerships required to guide the development and implementation of relevant mNutrition content and services, aligned with national nutrition priorities. The mNutrition Project offers an excellent opportunity for all nutrition stakeholders who are united in the country SUN platform to engage with mobile service providers and harness their expertise and reach to strengthen the implementation of the country’s nutrition strategy and action plan.
The position:
The objective of this assignment is to provide project management and coordination support to the contracted Local Content Partner for good quality nutrition content aggregation and publishing. The assignment includes building strong institutional relationships between the project and different stakeholders involved in the project – government, UN, NGOs, Universities.
The main process and product outputs:
To achieve the objective above, the consultant will:
Build and maintain effective relationships with government and stakeholders in support of the initiative, ensuring communication of project activities, results, lessons etc.
Coordinate recruitment/identification of in-country partner responsible for production of local nutrition content
Coordinate training of local content partner
Monitor progress of continent aggregation and publishing by the local content partner
Provide additional support to GSMA and MNOs involved in the initiative as required
The expected results of this consultancy are:
Contribute to cross-organisational learning and sharing through representation of the project in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) business network, national Nutrition Technical Working Group (NTWG)
Local content partner recruited and trained on content development
Local content partner producing content for mobile
Monitoring and Progress Controls
Develop country content framework and facilitate present in relevant nutrition forum for validation
Identify and assess a local content development partner organization
Provide logistical and management support during technical launch workshop Identify, recruit and assess local content partner
Support content partners to produce health and nutrition content
Provide support and progress monitoring to local content partner
Payments:Payment will be made monthly on confirmation of days spent on the project
Essential Skills and Qualifications will include:
Master degree, or PhD in nutrition, public health, development and other related fields
A minimum of 5 years professional experience in health related work including academia
Proficient in English, spoken and written. Ability to write reports and make presentations
Post qualification experience in managing health and nutrition projects at the national level
Excellent analytical and report writing skills
Diplomatic and an effective communicator
Experience of establishing strong working relationships with partners at national level
Post location:Uganda
Duration:21 months (6 days/ month) with a maximum number of 126 days.
