The full operational & technical Kenya Business Unit Leadership Team (incl. Operations, EHS, Well Engineering, Supply Chain/Logistics, IS (including field+comms) and company integrated planning).

Job Purpose:

Overall operational delivery (EHS, cost, schedule) and “Technical” Leader for the Kenya Business Unit.

Provides internal and external leadership for all the Kenya Business Unit operational and project activities across all its locations. Responsible for the establishment of a planned/controlled, sustainable and growing business in Kenya through exploration, development, production and new business activities.

The leadership style will be inclusive and mentoring to national and expatriate personnel alike, but will deliver exemplary operational results enhancing Tullow’s reputation as it grows its Development and Operational capabilities.

Examples of operational scale includes 2 current 2D seismic acquisition teams and 13D acquisition team to commence operations in Q3 2013. Presently three heavy drilling rigs and a further light well testing rig. A total of some 2,000 staff and contractors in our area of operations.

Key in-country support and deputy to Business Unit Manager representing Kenya BUnit operational method and performance. Alternate OC representative and TCM contributor as required.

Responsibilities / Key Objectives:

LEADERSHIP

Provides unifying leadership to all operational and technical Business Unit staff in all locations

Leads the establishment of a very strong EHS culture, standards and performance for the asset.

Delivery on all key operational and time/cost KPI targets for 2D and 3D seismic acquisition and E&A drilling.

Responsible for ensuring that the business unit development is sustainable with respect to delivering our localisation and people development targets, social enterprise initiatives with the local supply chain.

Maintain corporate compliance and the integrity of all operations within our policy standards.

As Kenya expands set priorities, assign resources and set “rules-of-the-game” for operational excellence and efficiencies.

Implement a hierarchy of operational planning detail from 7-14 day through to annual. Run BUnit operational planning across exploration, development and logistics. Inclusive of functional requirements such as Supply Chain.

BUSINESS

Accountable for the development and delivery of the Kenya Business Unit business strategy and annual performance targets.

The senior operational and upstream technical manager of Tullow Kenya BV (TKBV) and within the Kenya Leadership Team. The upstream senior manager reporting to and assisting the development of Kenyan personnel for the future

Oversee the in-country execution of the exploration, appraisal, development and production activities following corporate EH&S guidelines and IMS standards.

Build and develop a fit for purpose organisation to ensure adequate resources are available to deliver operational plans for the short and long term.

Single point accountable for overall TKBV work program and budget delivery in-country.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

Externally – be the operational face and voice of Kenya and Tullow’s Senior Operations/technical ‘Ambassador’ in Kenya. Deputise for and represent the Business Unit manager as required

Develops strong and effective relationships with Government and industry stakeholders that develop confidence and trust.

Ensure that the Operator and Joint venture reporting and responsibilities to the Ministry and its nominated organisations are adhered to. The Operations and Work program and Budget single point accountability for Tullow Kenya.

Financial Responsibility:

Develop and manage BU budget and plans – in 2014, circa

E&A CAPEX gross – >$400 million gross

Responsible for the development and delivery of the annua l and long-term targets for the business

Person Specification

Education:

Degree in engineering or equivalent

Post graduate qualification/experience in Business Management advantageous

Skills/Experience:
  • Experience of managing a significant and successful operational and commercial enterprise in a developing country(s).
  • Technical depth in all facets of onshore operations including local communities management and social performance
  • Management of a significant profit centre business is mandatory.
  • Proven business leader of a multi-discipline and cultural organisation
  • Familiar with large asset operations/logistics
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management skills
  • Proven negotiation and commercial skills
