This role reports to the Head of Customer Marketing

Context/Scope: This role is located within customer marketing in the marketing department. The Senior CPM role will be critical to the overall KBL short, medium and long-term strategy in developing and driving our trade strategy and operational excellence within on trade and off trade.

Purpose of the role:
  • Commercial and activations lead for one part of the portfolio (beer or spirits/RTDs)
  • The expert on their category and ensure that commercial planning managers are building an integrated strategy.
  • Make decisions on activity timings and commercial growth strategies, whilst providing support, resource and leadership for big complex activities.
  • Pivotal role in managing the processes for the category they handle and the coordination between the sales and marketing teams.
  • Driving the specific Category customer marketing agenda BTL (Below the line)
  • Pursuing improved consumer experiences in the on and the off trade for the category they handle.
  • Drive the planning and implementation of the category BTL brand plans, objectives and strategies through effective planning.Steward the engagement with the customers and influence the way the business executes in trade via the commercial planning process, brand strategies and game plans as well as the segment execution standards.

Market Complexity: The Kenyan market is developing rapidly, with widespread changes taking place in the structure of the retail trade. There is an emergence of an increasingly discerning customer and consumer. This has led to an increased growth in the standards of the retail outlets to meet these new consumer demands.

Positively influencing the sales drivers to deliver the businesses volume growth ambitions is critical in realising the EABL vision.

The competitor environment has greatly changed in the last one year and this has greatly changed the business operational landscape. This will require a complete change in our TBA strategic approach to the Customer and creating amazing relationship platforms to win at Retail.

The overall Regulatory environment has equally changed hence posing a clear change in the way we approach Retail with much emphasis on off trade segment. Thinking beyond our conventional Channel.

Top Accountabilities:
  • Manage the BPM process for their category
  • Create a portfolio strategy for their category including pricing
  • Owner of the category activity calendar
  • Ensure insight from category development is used in the commercial plans being built by the commercial planning managers.
  • Provide regular updates to head of Customer marketing on category performance, category activations and competitor analysis.
  • Own the M&E for the category
  • Accountable for all executions in the category.
  • Build functional (commercial thinking, interpretation and measurement) and leadership capability for their team.
Qualification & Experience:
  • Graduate.
  • Field experience in an FMCG
  • Ability to deliver results through others without direct authority.
  • Previously demonstrated success in Sales, Marketing or Trade Marketing ideal.
  • People management experience essential.
  • 5 years commercial role is ideal
  • Project management
