Project Description
A toolkit will be developed and field tested designed for health center supervisors and health facility in charges in sub-Saharan Africa to successfully integrate family planning and HIV services. A user friendly, comprehensive toolkit will be developed.
This is a contract position with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). UCSF is a
leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care. It is the only campus in the 10-campus UC system dedicated exclusively to the health sciences.
Deliverables:
Lead the development and field testing of a toolkit designed for health center in-charges to successfully integrate HIV and family planning services. The tool kit should include the following information: procedures for participant visits, human resources, commodity management, documentation and data management, and job aids and provider checklist. The tool kit will incorporate visuals, graphics, and flowcharts in order to facilitate implementing family planning and HIV service integration.
Use information gathered from a concurrent process evaluation of existing integrated family planning and HIV clinics in Kenya to develop a toolkit for use by clinic in-charges. Information will also be gathered from the Ministry of Health minimal package of family planning and HIV service integration and materials available through other partners working in Kenya.
After the development of the tool kit, the consultant will lead the implementation and evaluation of a beta tool kit in at least six facilities representing three regions in Kenya that are not currently integrating HIV and family planning services. These facilities will have six weeks to implement the tool kit.
The evaluation of the toolkit will include pre- and post-test integration assessment at each facility and key informant interviews with staff and in-charges to modify and update the toolkit.
Coordinate all activities with project manager and Tool Kit Development deputy consultant
Develop the final toolkit and participation in its dissemination.
Travel/Location: The lead toolkit consultant will travel to various regions in Kenya twice. The first trip (30 days) will be for the development of the tool kit and the second trip (30 days) will be for the pilot testing of the tool kit. The remainder of the contract can be completed in your preferred location.
Commitment: Two contracts of approximately 65 working days each, the first to develop the tool kit and the second to pilot and finalize the tool kit.
Compensation
Daily compensation rate to be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
United States and Kenyan travel expenses reimbursed based on actual expenses incurred and United States General Service Administration guidelines (http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/104877).
Payment provided upon invoice.
Desired Skills and Experience
Required Qualifications
- Significant experience developing, synthesizing, and evaluating Reproductive Health and HIV service tools and educational materials to guide health care service provision;
- Ability to effectively manage and guide a deputy consultant to assist with the toolkit development and evaluation
- Competent with computer software applications including Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), graphic and visual aids such as visio, and internet-based applications
- Over 5 years of experience in the design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research or program evaluation including rapid appraisals and data analysis;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across a broad range of stakeholders including government representatives, health care providers, local community organizations, donors and other stakeholders;
- Able to monitor, gather and evaluate information of broad scope and complexity
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills:
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English
- Maintain frequent contact using cell phone, email, and Skype
- Diplomatic with strong leadership skills.
- Natural ability to multitask, problem solve, and work with others to resolve challenges
- Interest in working in an innovative and demanding environment with significant travel
Master’s degree in Public Health or related discipline
Global health research or programmatic experience
