This position is a local hire position. Candidates must be Kenyan nationals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Take a leading position in the analysis and report writing for multiple Reproductive Health Program projects within the Population Council, with an initial focus to:
- Work extensively with Kenya Demographic and Health Survey datasets 1998-2014, creating one dataset from multiple rounds of KDHS maternal birth histories;
- Conduct a systematic literature review on user fees for maternal health services;
- Conduct interrupted time series analysis of birth history datasets to determine whether there were perturbations in trends of delivery location when user fee removal policies were introduced in 2003, 2007 and 2013.
- Conduct efficiency analyses and cost effectiveness analysis that improve the quality and uptake of healthcare financing research in the region; and
- Develop a dissemination strategy to engage policymakers in the research process and promote the utilization of evidence generated.
- Assist in financial accounting and budgets for data collection and related field work
- Demonstrate intellectual leadership in disseminating and communicating the Council’s results at national, regional and international levels through presentations, preparation of technical reports, and publications of papers in peer reviewed journals.
- Participate in effective donor management.
- Coordinate research activities including study proposal preparation, review and submission for ethical approval, training and supervising research assistants and ensuring that research is conducted according to ethical and quality standards.
- Contribute to the identification and development of new fundraising activities for the Council’s RH Program within the country and the region.
- Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Doctoral degree in demography, biostatistics, social science (quantitative), public health (quantitative), economics, or related quantitative field with training relevant to reproductive health, family planning, HIV and AIDS, poverty, gender, and youth is preferred although strong candidates with a masters degree and superior experience and topical publications will be considered. Experience in health service costing and cost-effectiveness analysis will be a significant advantage. Prefer minimum of two years’ relevant post-graduate professional experience. Demonstrated ability to design, implement, analyze, and disseminate scientific research including the ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences. In-depth, substantive knowledge of HIV and AIDS; reproductive health; and poverty, gender, and youth issues a plus. Ability to write scientific manuscripts and manage manuscript submission process is a requirement. Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment. Excellent written and oral English language communication skills. Willingness to travel within Kenya and the region when needed. Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks in parallel under minimum supervision.
