Job Title / Designation: Legal Officer

Department: Administration

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Job purpose: To provide support and servicing of the organization and other departments within the organization by provision of timely legal advice, compliance reporting and notification and handling of
legal issues affecting the organization.

Job Requirements:

• Interpret all laws, regulations, and by-laws and rules for the organization inter alia including environmental laws, procurement laws, corporate laws, land laws, contract laws, tort laws and employment laws.
• Representing the organization in various court matters including setting and fixing dates for hearings, making oral/written court applications, appearances and institute and defend court matters on behalf of the company.
• Legal research and pre-trial evidence collection and preparation of evidence including expert opinion evidence, analyzing case law, statutes, common law and raising points of argument, defenses and assembly of relevant evidence.
• Arguing and defending civil and criminal cases, pursuing civil claims, institution of suits, preparation of plaintiff evidence, taking litigants through examination in chief, cross examination, re-examination and preparation of written submissions.
• To draft, negotiate, vet and execute contracts, lease agreements, licenses and any other legal document on behalf of the organization.
• Provide secretariat services to managerial meetings and advise the management on legal compliance in decision making.
• To administer staff retirement benefits scheme and be custodian of the company’s Title documents.
• To ensure company property and employees are ensured against insurable risks

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized university.
• 15 years job experience in reputable companies or industries
• Computer literate
• Can work in a rural set up and under pressure with little or no supervision
• The applicant must be 35 years and above.
