This role reports to the Senior Auditor, CAT EABLContext/Scope:
EABL is the only fully integrated beverage business in Diageo Africa (supply and demand for beer, local and international spirits and soft drinks and also includes malting production). It is the largest business unit in Diageo Africa and covers the Eastern Africa region with a growing exports business
into the UK, USA & Australia. It is one of the largest listed Companies on the NSE (but is also listed in Uganda & Tanzania). EABL directly operates 3 breweries, 2 distilleries as well as a barley & malting facility.
EABL manufactures and distributes local beer brands through its subsidiary Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL), Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) and EABL International (EABLi) and spirits brands (both local and Diageo Global brands) through United Distillers & Vintners Kenya Limited (UDV K). EABL’s core brands include Tusker, Bell, Serengeti, Pilsner and Guinness. In spirits, Smirnoff and Johnnie Walker are the market leading brands alongside local brands such as Jebel, Kenya Kane and Richot Brandy.
The role holder will be based in East Africa and will support SBL, UBL, KBL, EAML, EABLI and EABL Corporate.
Purpose of role:
- CAT’s role is to act as an independent and strong assurance body providing EABL management with an honest assessment of internal controls in identified high risk areas. The CAT will have comprise approximately 6 people all of whom will have high quality of audit capabilities (or potential) and specialist capabilities within demand and supply to ensure quick understanding and the ability to quickly identify issues and recommend good practice. The CAT yearly schedule will involve the auditing of varied processes in all EABL business units. Team members must have a desire to travel and understand all of our sites and also spend time in trade in all countries (travel up to 40% of time in the region).
- The CAT has to establish and create an annual assurance plan in collaboration with the business unit Execs and the EABL Exec, and manage that plan through high quality execution, and with end reporting after every audit panel. Reports must be of a high quality as they will be presented to EABL Execs and to the EABL Board Assurance Committee.
- The Control Assurance Team must work closely with the East African CCE Team and the GMs, however independence should be maintained.
Execute high quality audits in accordance with timelines set out in annual Control Assurance Plan. Review and provide assurance over internal controls identified by the CARM framework, plus additional high risk areas.
Input into the audit report and ensure issues identified are grounded on facts, and agreed with stakeholders. Provide good practice solutions for the business to consider implementing.
Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of EABL processes and the application of sound commercial judgement in all activities undertaken.
Shape the Annual Audit Plan owned by the Head of CAT
On occasion assist with internal investigations
Qualification & Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience, including in a multinational (ideally multicultural/multilingual) corporate environment, with exposure to some of the following areas:
- Internal / external audit
- SOX experience (including CARM program within Diageo or other similar programs outside Diageo)
- Audit experience in Supply / Commercial areas
- Audit in Outsourced Service environments
- Process improvement
- Project management
- Business consulting
- Forensic (including SAP and other systems) audit knowledge
- Audit sampling techniques
- Excellent English
- Qualified Accountant and/or MBA, or professional qualification or equivalent experience in one of the above
