Summary:

JOB PURPOSE: To provide data management support for all projects within the Viral Epidemiology and Control research group.

REPORTS TO: Cluster Data Manager/ Study PI

DIRECT REPORTS:Data Entry Clerks

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct needs assessments and work together with the ICT department to design and create new databases for research.
  • Implement and enforce regular data security activities such as data backups, archiving and user administration using the operating system in place.
  • Ensure quality assurance process is on-going and performed according to the project.
  • Perform system documentation of all data management activities involved in with the sole aim of standardising the processes and participate in staff cross training
  • Identify and correct database errors using laid down procedures.
  • Manage systems and tools for collecting, entering, editing, cleaning, storing, archiving, retrieving, organizing, and transferring data.
  • Carry out data review, validation including discrepancy checking and cleaning and report generation of records generated from the databases.
  • Generate reports including verification error reports, comments reports, constraints reports and lists of all problems experienced in the sites as regards data collection.
  • Developing systems, SOPs, QCs and tools for collecting, entering, editing, cleaning, storing, validation, archiving and retrieving of data
  • Liaising closely with the programmers to create/update databases, and to test and implement the various case report forms as per requirements.
  • Assisting with development of screening logs and case report forms.
  • Testing quality and consistency and liaising with the statistician to supply data for a variety of different analyses
  • Training, supervising and managing data entry staff and monitor their performance.
  • Resolving queries that arise in data entry, storage and management
VEC specific duties include:
  • Integrate various large and diverse datasets within the group
  • Support project staff to supply data output for analysis from compiled databases
  • Maintain a reference database for the group
  • Support project database set up and running
  • Conduct statistical analysis necessary for report writing
  • Support lab staff data management needs, data manipulation and weekly report writing
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A degree in Information Management, Statistics or Computer Science.
  • At least 3 years prior experience in research data management.
  • Experience in data management, programming and analysis using STATA, R, Excel, FileMaker, MySQL.
  • Post graduate qualification in a related field is desirable.
  • Knowledge of ICT infrastructure
  • Experience in Apple and PC hardware and applications
