Summary:
JOB PURPOSE: The Information for Malaria (INFORM) project (www.inform-malaria.org) was
established as an African initiative to harness the combined effort of national malaria control programmes, researchers and other regional partners to assemble and package malaria information for evidence-based, national malaria control planning. INFORM will be working in several high malaria risk countries in Africa over the next four years to develop detailed malaria epidemiological profiles to support evidence-based decision making for malaria control. This work will be done in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK.
REPORTING LINES:
This position reports to the INFORM Director
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The post holder will:
- Support the assembly and geocoding of cluster level data from household surveys on malaria prevalence and intervention coverage
- Support the assembly of geocoded long term climate data derived from satellite imagery
- Maintain a metadata of all assembled datasets
- Undertake preliminary descriptive analysis of key data
- Contribute to the academic life of the programme through attendance and presentation at seminars, journal clubs etc.
Essential Qualifications:
- A Bsc in Geomatics, Geography, Surveying or other Earth Sciences
- Experience in Geographical Information Systems
- Good organisation and management skills
- Excellent presentation skills, both oral and written
- The ability to work in different settings and to liaise with different groups
- Experience in handling large health and household survey data
- Skills in basic applied statistics
- Competency in programming in R, Python or equivalent platforms for developing advanced Bayesian spatial and temporal models.
- Experience within governmental or non-governmental agencies
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
