Vacant Position: Clinical Officer (Pediatrician)
Reporting: Medical Officer in Charge
Liaison: Other Medical Staff
Job Summary: Offer clinical examinations and treatment to children while monitoring any questionable conditions as well as do follow ups
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews infants, children and teenager patients history and performs clinical examinations
- Directly involved in making diagnosis, writing prescriptions and other treatment activities
- Confirms questionable and notable diseases and reports them to the medical officer in charge
- Performs technical skills related to resuscitation e.g. Basic life support
- Implement policies and philosophy of the hospital, as directed by the hospital Governing Board
- Performs minor and intermediate surgical procedures for infants, children and teenagers
- Directly involved in patients referral for specialized management
- Involved in monitoring of patients follow-ups
- Handles referrals from subordinate Health Facilities
- Ensures patients flow, clinic organization and rectification of bottle necks
- Involved in immunization programs and mass immunization campaigns
- Responsible for various types of community services of promotion, and preventive nature including: Maternal care; Nutritional care; Child health services
- Plans and accompanies mobile health teams and provides specific diagnostic and curative tasks including health related lectures
- Involved in training of community extension workers e.g. TBAs, CBDs CHWs and monitoring their activities in effort to improve community health
- Maintenance of good patients, public and staff relationship.
- Writing and submitting six monthly and annual reports
- Prepare regular CME presentations in area of specialization for other staff.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Medical Officer in charge from time to time
Qualification and Competencies Required
- Medical training from a reputable institution
- Training in pediatrics is a must
- Must be registered by the clinical officer’s council
- Must have a current private practice license
- At least three years’ experience in a busy hospital attending to children
- Good interpersonal skills and team work
- Excellent organization skills
