Location: Mumias, Kenya Summary: Mumias Sugar Company is Kenya’s leading producer of sugar and diversified products which include Ethanol and Bottled Water. The Company also generates significant quantities of electricity which is exported to the National Grid.

As a result of this process, the Company is seeking highly motivated, results oriented, self-driven, experienced and qualified individuals who will drive the business of the Company to the next level.Job Purpose: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the job holder will ensure that the business continuously acquires, develops and retains an innovative, learning and competent human capital in the value chain in order to meet organizational goals while ensuring efficiency in delivery of administrative services.
He/she will act as a focal point of all HR activities across MSC so as to ensure a cohesive approach to best practice HR which will in turn deliver cordial employee relations and Company targets for culture change.Primary Responsibilities:
Developing and driving the implementation of overall Human Capital strategy for MSC
Act as a change agent in the organization and champion for the desired organizational culture guiding management actions through development of policies, procedures and effecting changes promptly where necessary
Put in place mechanisms to continuously monitor employee moods/feelings and perceptions in a timely manner and implement timely corrective measures
Timely implementation of emerging labor relations issues to maintain a harmonious working relationship with the trade unions and staff population in general.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation requirements in executing all employee actions from hire to retire by continuously studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions from time to time
Supports management and the Board of Directors by providing human resources advice, counsel, and guiding management decisions in line with best practices and requirements of the labor laws
Develop and maintain an innovative, learning, technologically savvy and high performance culture in the organization through a variety of interventions.
Overall responsibility of Environmental Health and Safety in the Company
Establish a competitive reward structure that reflects fairness and equity across the organization and positions MSC as an employer of choice.
Maintain a conducive working and living environment for all staff through implementation of various programmes with demonstrable benefits to the business.
Planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing staff utilization and labor productivity; maintaining compensation; determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing systems; resolving problems; implementing change.
Manage the overall provision of Medical Services to staff and their dependents through the Medical center and the medical Insurance service providers to ensure effective and efficient delivery of curative and preventive health services to employees and dependents in a conducive environment to minimize lost man-hours
Experience and Skills:
Degree in Social Sciences, HR or its equivalent.
Master’s degree in Human Resources Management/MBA or related field will be an added advantage.
In-depth working Knowledge of Labor laws
10 years’ Experience 5 of which must be at senior management level in a union environment.
Experience in general management with specific knowledge in workplace Health & Safety management is desirable.
Must be a paid up member of Institute of Human Resources Management (K)
