Kenya Methodist University is a Chartered Christian Institution and its Vision is to be a world class University raising a generation of professionals and transformational leaders.
The Main Campus is in Meru and other Campuses are in; Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri and Kisii. The University also has Centres in Meru Town, Maua and Marimanti.
Kenya Methodist University is seeking to appoint an eminent individual with an earned Doctorate degree or equivalent qualification and an outstanding track record in academic and business leadership for the position of the Vice Chancellor.
Requirements:
For appointment to the position of the Vice Chancellor, a person shall:
Be a Professor or Associate Professor, holder of an earned Doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from an accredited University;
Have thorough knowledge in the structural, legislative and regulatory framework for administering University Education in Kenya;
Have at least ten years hands-on experience in a senior academic or management position ¡n a university with demonstrable leadership, and management capacity;
Be an accomplished scholar with proven track record in formulating and managing academic programs and supervising and mentoring Masters and PhD students;
Have a proven track record of research and publications in peer reviewed journals, monographs and books;
Have ability to develop and implement inter-institutional linkages with relevant institutions for enhancement of quality of academic and research activities in the University;
Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity;
Be innovative,visionary leader with the capacity to build a dynamic management team;
Have a demonstrable experience in transformative and strategic leadership; and
Must have good understanding of the current trends, education laws, policies and regulations governing the planning and management of Universities in Kenya.
Duties and Responsibilities: Subject to the provisions of Kenya Methodist University Charter and the statutes, the terms and conditions of appointment of the Vice-Chancellor shall be as set out in Article 16 of the Charter.
The Vice-Chancellor shall be the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor shall be the official representative and spokesman of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor shall be the Secretary to the Council.
The Vice-Chancellor shall be Chairman of the Senate.
The Vice-Chancellor shall be responsible for policy matters, planning, coordination, corporate relations, security, fundraising and institutional development of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor shall recommend to the Council the appointments of Principals and Deans.
The Vice-Chancellor shall appoint Chairs of Academic Departments.
The Vice-Chancellor may assign or delegate any of his duties to a committee or to a member of the university staff and may withdraw any such assignment or delegation at any time.
Appointment: As per Kenya Methodist University Charter and Statutes the Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a period of five (5) years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for a further five years subject to a positive appraisal by the Council.
